2: Glaciers, Icefields and Admiralty Island
“Fortress of the Bear”
Transfer to
the local heliport where you can climb
aboard a charter helicopter. For the next
hour
soar over spectacular Juneau Icefields,
which form part of the largest non-polar ice
cap in the world! Amidst this majestic
setting, the helicopter lands on a glacier
and guests may experience walking on
10,000 year old ice! Afterwards
transfer to a sea plane
for a flight to Admiralty Island where you
can enjoy a catered barbecue lunch at a
remote lodge. Later this afternoon the sea
plane flight safari continues in search of
brown bears found on beaches and streams.
The plane may land on water for close-up
animal viewing if appropriate. The sea plane
safari concludes at Bartlett Cove in Glacier
Bay National Park.
Day
3: Cruising Glacier Bay National Park
Cruise by high
speed catamaran from Bartlett Cove into the
heart of Alaska’s Glacier Bay. This is the
realm of spectacular tidewater glaciers,
steep fjords, and seals! For incentive
groups we can charter a vessel for exclusive use
and provide a specially catered lunch with
open bar. On-board naturalists explain the
nature and topography of the region. The
vessel will get close to the glacial ice
wall for the best photo opportunities.
Day
4: Kayaks with the Whales - A living
marine world
Today we
offer the thrill of the great outdoors and
the best of Alaska’s marine world. A local naturalist introduces
guests to sea kayaking as they paddle together through
this pristine marine waterway. T here will
also be an opportunity for a hike in the
Sitka Spruce Rainforest. This afternoon the highlight is
whale viewing in the waters of Icy Straight.
Aboard a high speed catamaran, you can sail
toward the summer feeding grounds of the
magnificent Humpback whale and spend a
few hours watching these gentle giants,
learning about their habitat, and their behavior patterns. The whales
are frequently close to the vessels and
offer good sightings. The vessel returns to
the dock late this afternoon, and the
transfer to the lodge is provided.
Day 5: Homeward Bound
Transfer
from the lodge to the local airport.
Note to
incentive planners: There are a variety of
lodges in the Gustavus/Glacier
Bay area. For larger groups of over 35
guests, you will need to stay
at Glacier Bay Lodge. A hotel style
property located on the waterfront.
Important Notes:
This
itinerary module can be combined with a
program to include Skagway with the historic
Yukon White Pass Railway, and into Canada’s
Yukon Territory. Inside Passage cruise
either by charter yacht or cruise liner make
an excellent longer program. |
