Glacier Bay Cruises

Cruise Glacier Bay, one of the most rare and beautiful places on earth, onboard the Spirit of Alaska. The rapidly retreating glacier ice reveals a spectacular network of islands and fjords. Enjoy acres of pristine wilderness, hear the call of sea birds as they cluster on the tiny islands, and feel the chill of a glacier as you travel through this spectacular place. Highlights of this cruise include Skagway, Haines, Glacier Bay, and Juneau. The 5 day cruise also includes Icy Strait.

Cruise West's vessels are smaller than most of the cruise ships plying Alaska's waters. This allows for cruising through passages which are inaccessible to larger ships, resulting in a sense of truly being part of the great coastal vista. With the friendly and personal atmosphere on board, dramatic scenery, glaciers, and wildlife, this is a cruise you will long remember.

Itinerary

5 day / 4 night cruise

Day 01:  Sail from Juneau

Transfer to the Goldbelt Hotel hospitality suite in preparation for your cruise. The hotel's convenient waterfront locale is a perfect base for exploring Alaska's beautiful capital city, one of the most popular cruise ship ports in Alaska. This afternoon, board the ship to begin your cruise down the Gastineau Channel. Overnight on-board.

Day 02:  Skagway and Haines

Relive the Gold Rush in the picturesque setting of Skagway, where many of the early gold seekers set off with dreams of becoming rich. Catch the Skagway Streetcar for a tour of this charming town. Head down mountain-lined Lynn Canal for a visit to Haines, situated on a quite bay under the Chilkat Mountains. Learn the Haines history and Native culture at Fort William H. Seward. Haines is also know for its large concentration of eagles and its artist population, with works displayed in local galleries. Overnight on-board.

Day 03:  Glacier Bay

Enter a 3.3 million acre nature wonderland where a National Park Service Ranger will come onboard to offer information on the flora and fauna of this impressive region. Over 200 species of fish are found in Park waters, including all five species of Pacific salmon. About 220 species of birds have been recorded in the Park as well as large populations of land mammals. Have your binoculars and camera with you on deck as the Ranger helps you look for mountain goats, brown and black bears, coyote, wolverine, moose, harbor seals, puffins, and murres. Overnight on-board.

Day 04: Icy Strait - Captain's Choice Cruising**

The annual summer conjunction of currents, bottom topography and tidal energy causes an extraordinary bloom of plankton to occur. This bloom creates a biological richness that attracts humpbacks and other marine mammals like sea lions and seals. Captain's Choice cruising may also include inflatable excursion craft outings or bow landings, to look for wildlife such as brown bear, Sitka black-tailed deer and wolves in the old-growth forests of Sitka spruce and western hemlock. You may also see playful otters and bald eagles. Overnight on-board.    ** 4 day/3 night cruise does not include Icy Strait.**

Day 05: Juneau Disembarkation

Disembark in Juneau. Transfer to airport.

4 day/3 night cruise or 5 day/4 night cruise with private stateroom. All meals on board, all onboard gratuities, fuel surcharge and port tax (subject to change).
